2024 and Onward

Much has happened since we first began doing electoral work at CU. The political landscape, the community’s interest in becoming civically engaged, the resources, and the stakes have evolved from where we were in 2008. Since the 2016 elections, many of the voters we’ve connected with have expressed feeling “burned out” and “distrustful” of our electoral systems. Voters have increasingly been marketed elections as the biggest and most important thing to happen and have been made to feel responsible for whatever negative consequences arise from them. From elected officials lying about the legitimacy of our electoral systems to legacy media failing to fact-check and their sensationalizing of electoral cycles, voters have become more misaligned with the U.S. electoral system.

We need to meet these challenges by building a campaign that can reorient voters by giving them factual information they can trust. As a community-based organization with a long track record of fighting for the interest of working-class Utans, we have the relationships and experience necessary to launch a campaign focused on educating voters so they understand (1) when and (2) how to cast a vote and (3) know where to find information about the candidates and the ballot initiatives they will have to decide on.
